For the 20years that I raced nitromethane fueled Funny Cars (F/C)…I was a part of perpetually pushing the envelope on engine structure & componentry. I was there in 1972, when the last "big block" (BB) Chevy F/C attempted to compete against the radically stronger 426 hemi. The Stage I Keith Black 426 hemi block for example, then met the challenge of horsepower ranging from 2,000 to 3,500hp for 10 years. The next 10 years saw horsepower development "doubled" and the K-B block went thru 12 stages of structural revision. It was also in the mid-80’s, that our DOHC motor with wider bore spacing made a giant leap in "structural integrity" design. The 1950’s "big block" design was created in Detroit for a power parameter of 275 to 500hp max! For the next 40 years, what minor revisions were made…NONE, had anything to do with structural integrity to support BIG POWER! There are some aftermarket BB engine builders who have sought to build a better mousetrap with "casting" improvements, etc. But again, only for horsepower not exceeding 1,000hp. Question any single part or segment of our DOHC motor’s design…and I’ll define how it is far superior and sure to "outlive" any other engine assembly. The "True Power" DOHC PSI Supercharged 572 cu-in V8 has been built to outperform everything else on the market, to rev higher, to make more power and live longer than any engine you have EVER run! |
